Odd little creations. I can tell you first hand that they ride like total butt over Detroit potholes.

Some of them can be quite fetching.

Kinja'd!!!

Yes, they ride like hell on anything but a smooth surface.

Different things! That Versatron thing is pedal powered. The OP pic is electrathon. Both are awesome.

Electrathon serves as a fantastic mechanical, electrical, and physics learning tool, in a venue almost entirely used by high school students. You get 73 lb of lead acid battery, some design constraints, and one driver turns as many laps as they can within a given time frame on real race tracks. If your efficiency is good, traction limits are a real issue. If your racing line is good, your efficiency is good. It’s real live wheel to wheel racing with fuel, traction, aerodynamic, passing, and time constraints to deal with.

HPVs have come a hell of a long way since the Vector. Imagine being stuffed inside a cocoon half the size of that Vector, steering by camera because there are no windows, pedaling at maximum effort on two wheels, pushing 87 mph on nothing but leg power. http://www.aerovelo.com/press

I didn’t realize you were watching electrics!

Things have come a long way since the Vector, but this was the one that sparked my interest when I first saw it in a magazine. Yeah, I’m that old. I’ve wanted a recumbent ever since, but life always got in the way. One day I'll be one of those old fat guys cruising around on a faired bent.
